Classes for All Ages & Abilities

Pacific Martial Arts offers top-level instruction in over a dozen martial disciplines. Whether you seek to learn martial arts for competition, self-defense, or as a traditional study, we have an art to suit your need.

Since 1996, PMA has been a gathering place for top-level martial arts instructors in the Central Valley. Our instructors have each dedicated a vast amount of time to achieve a high level of competence in their respective art.

KARATE

This is a style of karate (meaning empty hand) utilizes the practitioners own body as a weapon for self defense.  the style taught at Pacific Martial Arts is American Freestyle Karate which uses techniques from many different martial arts and integrates those techniques into one system. Much like MMA where techniques from different martial arts are integrated into an effective fighting style. These classes give students a broad knowledge of the martial arts, as well as practical and effective techniques.

BJJ

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (meaning gentle discipline) emphasizes technique, position, angles, and leverage as opposed to strength to bring an opponent to the ground to force them to submit. Studies show that most fights end up on the ground; Brazilian Jiu Jitsu provides the right training to survive on the ground.  It is an ideal art for women, men, and children and gives the skills for a smaller weaker person to defeat a larger stronger more aggressive person.  It is a rigorous workout and has the benefit of strengthening the practitioner physically, mentally, and emotionally.

AIKI JU-JUTSU & JAPANESE SWORD

Nami Ryu means “wave style” and refers to the fact that energy travels in waves. The wave effect is one of the underlying principles of our art.

As seen in the art’s name, Nami Ryu Aiki Heiho practitioners study the laws of physics and natural movement, which in turn create a tactical advantage over an attacker. Our goal is to teach practical self-defense and awareness skills that can be used in everyday life.

CARDIO KICKBOXING

Cardio Kickboxing is a high-energy class that teaches the fundamentals of kicks, elbow strikes, knee strikes, and boxing techniques. The kickboxing class is for those who want to become physically conditioned and learn the basics of striking.

The class starts with a dynamic warmup to get the student ready for the class.  The next portion of the class is centered around functional training such as use of medicine balls, kettle bells, battle ropes, suspension training, plyometrics, and calisthenic.  The class will then move to bag work using heavy bags, speed bags, and double end bags.  Partner work can consist of focus mitts and partner drills.  Every class ends with a team stretch.

SUBMISSION GRAPPLING

Submission Grappling is similar to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu except students will train without uniforms.  Like Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, submission grappling emphasizes technique, position, and leverage to bring an opponent to the ground to force them to submit. This class also uses the techniques of wrestling to effectively bring opponents to the ground and control the positioning.  the techniques from bjj help with submissions and ground control.  This class is an excellent class on its own or as an integral part of any mixed martial arts program.  Studies show that most fights end up on the ground; Brazilian Jiu Jitsu provides the right training to survive on the ground.

MUAY THAI (TEENS & ADULTS)

Muay Thai (the art of eight limbs) is a fighting art originally practiced in Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand. The class teaches punches, kicks, elbows, knees, and clinching techniques. The Muay Thai class is ideal for those who want to become physically conditioned and are looking to learn the techniques of an experienced fighter.  The head instructor is an experienced MMA fighter and conditioning coach who has trained with some of the top coaches in the country himself.  He utilizes his knowledge gained through his experience to help students reach their personal potential and goals.

WRESTLING

Pma wrestling is taught by coach Nikko Reyes and covers three styles of wrestling Collegiate, Freestyle and Greco-Roman.  all of these styles have different rules but all emphasizes the importance of stand-up takedown techniques, control points for takedown set-ups and crucial components of proper positioning for counter attacks and top control.  Collegiate or folk style is the dominant stye in U.S. elementary, junior high, high school and colleges.  Freestyle is the dominant style for international and olympic competition.  Greco Roman is also part of international and Olympic Competition and emphasizes the use of upper body throws and takedowns.

JUDO for jiu jitsu

The Judo for jiu jitsu class Focuses on the throws and takedowns from the sport of Judo. This class will teach students to utilize balance, leverage, grips, and body position to throw bigger and stronger opponents.  This is an important part of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu since both competition and self defense start in the standing position.  This class teaches students how to bridge the gap between the opponent, get dominant grips and execute an effective throw.  Students also learn how to fall when thrown so that they do not get injured.  The students will also learn how to react after being thrown or after throwing an opponent known as impact control.

HISTORICAL EUROPEAN FENCING (HEMA)

Iron Gate Sword fighting is an Historical European Martial Arts and Historical Fencing club that studies the use of the European longsword and other weapons based on manuscripts from the early 15th century. Iron Gate’s main study is an Italian martial art called Armizare (Art of arms) based on late 14th century fencing master Fiore dei Liberi’s treatise Il Fior di Battaglia (The Flower of Battle) which covers grappling, dagger, longsword, sword in armor, poleaxes and spear.

ESKRIMA

Eskrima is a martial art originating in the Philippines. The art emphasizes the use of weapons of assorted sizes: short, medium, and long sticks, knives, machetes, swords, and spears. Unlike other martial arts it is the weapons that are taught first and later empty-handed techniques. The style of Eskrima taught at Pacific Martial Arts is Estalilla Kabaroan Eskrima as taught by Ramiro Estalilla Jr who started training in 1941 and learned from his father and uncle at the start of World War II. Grand Master Estalillia still oversees his senior instructors who share the art with students of all levels.

LITTLE NINJAS KARATE (3-6 YRS OLD)

This class is specially designed for children from the ages of three to five years old. The emphasis is on the development of eight core skills; Focus, Teamwork, Control, Balance, Memory, Discipline, Fitness, and Coordination. These skills give children a head start on the skills that they will use in school, at home and in their future martial arts training. Every day that students do warmups, drills, and games that are used to emphasizes one of the core skills. Students that go through the little ninja program build a strong foundation that can carry over to a variety of other classes.
